Join Our Lab

Thank you for your interest in joining our lab!

Our lab’s aim is to advance understanding of the responses of large mammal populations to ecological and environmental drivers and to use that knowledge to directly inform wildlife management and conservation. We strive to work closely with state and federal entities to address emerging and pressing issues in large mammal ecology and management in the state of North Dakota, as well as continue working in African systems to address both fundamental and applied questions in ecology.

We integrate aspects of behavioral ecology, physiology, evolution, and chemical ecology to address ecological questions at the population and community levels and are always looking for creative ways to approach fundamental and applied questions revolving around large mammal ecology.

I am looking for for excited, motivated, and dedicated students with an interest in large mammal ecology and/or management. Having a passion for large mammals is a good starting point, but it is not enough to get you through the rigors of a graduate degree. Students should be passionate about their research questions and the quest to seek answers (which sometimes can be highly frustrating). Grad school, like any aspect of life, is filled with highs and lows. Thus, I am looking for students that have a positive outlook and will be supportive, accepting labmates to their peers.

I am also committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our field (and the world at large). In my lab, I aim to foster an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment that respects, acknowledges and celebrates diversity and individual differences.

Graduate Students

I will be accepting a limited number of graduate students to start in the Fall of 2024. Typically, I only accept graduate students for positions for which I have funding, however, I may accept students who bring their own funding. Generally, I encourage all prospective graduate students to apply for graduate fellowships/funding for which they are eligible. After reading our lab’s website and you think that your interests strongly align with our research questions/interests, please send me an email outlining: (1) why you want to pursue an advanced degree, (2) your research interests and how they align with our lab’s research interests, and (3) your qualifications for graduate school, and (4) experience to date. Please also attach a current CV to your email. Graduate students can only be accepted to my lab if they meet the requirements of the University of North Dakota for M.S. and Ph.D. admission.

If you meet the requirements and you are a compatible match for our lab, I would be happy to set up a time to chat with you regarding the co-development of grant and/or fellowship proposals.

Postdocs

I am always looking for people that are excited and interested in taking the leap into the next step of their academic career. If you feel that your research interests are well-aligned with our lab, please send me an email outlining (1) your interests, (2) your experience, and (3) your ideas for a postdoc project, and (4) your most recent CV. If you are a compatible match to our lab, I would be happy to discuss co-development of grants/fellowships with you.
